Equipment

Each player MUST have their own helmet, glove and bat. There are some great local stores where you can buy used equipment for a reasonable price.

Helmets with full face masks are required for 6u and 8u leagues, and are encouraged for leagues 10u and above.  Metal cleats are not allowed for 12U and under. In 15U, metal cleats are permitted; however, are not allowed on the pitching mound.

Bat Regulations:

Player pitch leagues have bat regulations that will be enforced – refer to the specific league rules to ensure all bats are compliant. If you are planning on purchasing a new bat, we highly recommend purchasing a bat that meets the proper standards: The USABat standard.

Safety Regulations:

  • SRA requires a pitchers mask or helmet for all players at the pitchers position in all age groups of softball and in 6U thru 8U baseball.
  • SRA recommends the use of a heart guard in all age groups for all players.
  • While a mouth guard is not required, it is highly recommended to all. Please click here to learn more about mouth guards.
  • No jewelry is allowed to be worn during play
  • SRA adheres to all COVID related procedures as required by Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services.
  • SRA takes head injuries seriously. Please review our Concussion Protocol.

Baseball 6U – ages 4-6 (Co-Ed)

6U baseball is for boys and girls age 4 to 6 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In 6U, players will receive three pitches from a coach and, if unsuccessful, hit a ball off a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of 6U are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Rosters may be composed of up to 12 players.  For more information contact the 6U Commissioner.

SRA will be dividing our 6U league into 2 divisions similar to our 8U league at the discretion of the League Commissioner and based on registration numbers. If there are 2 divisions, we will have a National league and an American league.   National will be our introductory league to teeball. We will not play outs, strikeouts, etc. This league is open to any child under the age of 6 as of April 30.  This league is intended for children learning the basics of baseball or families who want to maintain a lower key approach to the game. American will be for the more advanced 6U player that is ready to begin learning more of the fundamental aspect of the game. In the American league coaches will pitch and we will play outs, strikeouts, etc. It is expected that children who play coach pitch  6U baseball will have mastered the basics of baseball including catching and throwing.

Baseball 8U (Coach Pitch) – ages 7-8

The 8U Division is a coach pitch league for 7 and 8 year-olds. There may be two separate 8U Divisions – American and National – at the discretion of the League Commissioner and based on registration numbers. The divisions are separated by skill level. National is our traditional 8U League in which most players will be placed. National bases are set at 60-foot paths with a 38-foot pitching distance. American is designed for those who have proven they can play at an increased level and will be limited to 4-5 teams. American bases are set at 60-foot paths with a 38-foot pitching distance. In addition, American League uses a standard hardcore baseball for practice and play, National uses a softcore baseball. When registering, you will not be able to select which League your child will be part of during the season. Evaluations will be held close to the start of season, and while age is taken into account, their skill level also determines which group they will be placed in for the season. For more information contact the 8U Commissioner.
